Selling a Company as a Female Entrepreneur

Are you interested in figuring out how to sell your business? Especially as a female CEO or company owner, it's not always easy to have these conversations.

Since selling my marketing agency, 11outof11, in May, a little over a dozen other female entrepreneurs have reached out to chat about selling. Those individual conversations will remain confidential of course, but most were curious to learn:

  • Why did I decide to sell?
  • – Who helped me in this journey?
  • – How did I feel after the fact?

Those conversations then moved to questions about their own situations. These questions included things like:

  • – Did I think that they could sell their company some day?
  • – How do you know when it is the right time to sell?
  • – What should they work on now, to make selling in the future a reality?

 

These conversations about selling a company don’t happen at marketing and advertising conferences, and they don’t happen in Level 10 meetings, either. 

They happen in small settings among women who are grossly underrepresented and uneducated in this topic—through no fault of our own, of course.

The world of M&A needs to shift and become more inclusive to women. We deserve to be talking about these topics more and more, and to know how to build and stage our companies for a successful exit.

As a female leader in marketing, it’s an honor to work with more women-owned companies. It’s amazing to see them succeed and rise up above hard decisions, and to guide owners in how to prepare their company to sell while leaving a legacy at the same time.
